A George III Irish silver epergne; principally Dublin 1779, probably John Laughlin. Shaped oval, the central navette shaped basket with beaded rim, and shell, acanthus leaf and swag decoration; the oval frame with conforming decoration and laurel leaf swags between urn decorated cartouches. On four hoof feet with fruiting vine supports. Later branches and baskets of conforming design, Dublin 1795 probably by John Shiels. Each of the eight baskets centrally crest engraved. Lacking four branches and one damaged. 34cm high x 52cm width.

Condition Report

What is there is generally in good condition except that there are indications of old repairs to the principal bowl. There are however four missing branches and although all the circular baskets look identical they bear differing marks. Two have the Dublin mark and Hibernia mark; two have Hibernia and maker’s mark JS and four have the Hibernia mark and the maker’s mark JL.
